With one Grand Prix remaining, Carlos Sainz is for now the only driver to beat Red Bull Racing in the 2023 season. Ferrari's Spaniard was the best in Singapore. A second victory, by the way, would suit the Italians very well: After all, Ferrari are in a fierce battle with Mercedes for second place in the constructors' championship.

The difference between the two teams is four points. Coming second or third makes a big difference in terms of prize money. But coming second in this championship is not what Ferrari is ultimately in Formula 1 for. The team wants world titles, nothing more and nothing less. To realise that dream in '24, they will have to deal with Red Bull Racing, which is miles away from Ferrari this year.

Sainz thinks: 'McLaren can do it too'

Still, there is some hope that next season Ferrari will come closer, according to Carlos Sainz in conversation with, GPblog and others: "I think it has to be our realistic aim, yes. Will we manage to do it? Only time will tell but I want the team to be thinking that is possible because I believe it is and it’s also been proven that McLaren has been able to do these steps during the season."

During the winter break, Ferrari will have to work hard, while the Austrians will not be idle either. "I'm perfectly confident that Ferrari can do it over a winter break and I trust this team, I trust the capacity that we have back at home to turn things around and as you said there's still circuits where we are on pole by three tenths to the Red Bull it's just a specific trait of the car that really is good, we just need to make it an all-rounder."
