Carlos Sainz ended Friday's practice sessions feeling good. Speaking to Sky, the Ferrari driver looks back at both sessions in an upbeat mood, and looks ahead to the rest of the weekend.
For Sainz, practice sessions were about the opposite of what his teammate Charles Leclerc experienced. Whereas Leclerc's sessions were plagued by a puncture and a crash, Sainz drove out of both practice sessions without difficulty. In the first session, he even achieved the fastest time. In the second session, he finished just behind Leclerc in eighth place, but due to Pirelli's tyre test, that was not a very representative time.
So reason for Sainz to be positive. After the second practice session, the Spaniard therefore reacted very optimistically.
"In general, it was a positive day here in Mexico. We completed the two sessions without any issues and managed to change the car quite a lot between the sessions to test different approaches. It’s not an easy circuit, we’re naturally lacking downforce here due to the altitude but we’re having fun out there. We’ll try to put on a good show for everyone this weekend."
In the standings, Sainz has to look mainly behind him at the moment. George Russell is in fourth place, increasingly his lead over Sainz, while Lewis Hamilton is now only four points behind the Ferrari driver.
