The outer loop of the
Bahrain International Circuit promised to be a spectacle from the moment the lights went out, but few people expected
Sergio Perez to take his first career victory.
The men on the podium
An unbelievable blunder from
Mercedes and an early retirement by
Max Verstappen meant that the
Sakhir Grand Prix was up for grabs. The Mexican ended up in last place after a tap from
Charles Leclerc, but kept his cool and avoided all the chaos that followed in the race.
Esteban Ocon took the podium for Renault. It is his best result in
Formula 1 to date and also his first podium.
Lance Stroll took his second podium of this season with third place.
Chaos at Mercedes
Carlos Sainz takes 12 points in his penultimate race with P4 and the man who will take over his seat at
McLaren next year,
Daniel Ricciardo, finished fifth. We only find the first Mercedes in eighth place,
Valtteri Bottas can add four points.
George Russell had a really bad result and saw victory disappear. The Brit did take his first points with a ninth-place, but due to the error in the pits, Russell might lose those points. He is under investigation.
