A critical Ralf Schumacher said that Red Bull will "find it difficult to solve their problems" as current technical director Pierre Waché is "simply not Adrian Newey". The former
F1 driver believes that the departure of the British master designer has been one of the leading factors in the downward trend of the Austrian team, unable to find themselves at the front of the grid since he left after the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, then going to
join Aston Martin from the 2025 season onwards.
The problems at Red Bull are still unresolved in 2025, with the RB21 being a very difficult car to drive, as shown perfectly at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
It became painfully clear to Red Bull that the speed was far from present, with
Max Verstappen only able to finish P6 at the Bahrain International Circuit, with the Dutchman
not wanting to talk with his team after that disappointing result, highlighting the issues at the team.
Schumacher sees Red Bull in a "dilemma!
"In my opinion, Pierre Waché is simply not Adrian Newey. Therefore, it will be difficult [to solve the problems]," Schumacher examined while speaking to Sky Sport Germany.
According to Schumacher, this is mainly
Christian Horner's fault: "
He built the whole team and was responsible for the team together with Dr. Marko. He should have seen it. And he should never have lost Adrian Newey."
Verstappen's superb win at the Japanese Grand Prix means he sits on 87 points, just twelve points off championship leader Oscar Piastri, but Red Bull are 99 points away from McLaren in the constructors' championship, exacerbating the team's struggles.
With Newey's departure and the downward spiral that has followed, Schumacher sees it as a 'classic management problem': "When you think things are going as they are and you think you no longer need him, that's when it starts. I think Christian Horner has outgrown himself, and now he faces a dilemma," the German concluded.
