Max Verstappen retained the lead at the start of the
Spanish Grand Prix.
Carlos Sainz got away excellently from second place but failed to outsmart the Dutchman before the first corner.
Where Verstappen and Sainz let each other live in the first corner, it was less so between
Lewis Hamilton and
Lando Norris. The two hit each other after Hamilton overtook the
McLaren driver at the start. Norris tried to come back but broke part of his front wing on Hamilton's Mercedes. As a result, the young Briton fell far back and had to make a very early pit stop.
