Despite a poor start to the season that sees Haas lie eighth in the Constructors’ Championship, team principal Gunther Steiner still believes that his team is the fourth-best team this year.
Haas do have a lot of pace in their car, but a combination of bad luck and individual errors has seen the American team pick up only 19 points, all courtesy of
Kevin Magnussen.
Haas started the season very strongly in Australia, until pit stop errors forced both cars to retire, losing a large haul of points in the process.
At that time, there was no doubt that Haas looked to be the fourth strongest team, but it has all been downhill from there, with the team failing to score points in the last three races.
However, Steiner believes that the form will return.
“What gets you over the disappointment is four weeks ago in Barcelona we were best of the rest by a good margin and we haven’t lost that,” Steiner said.
“You never stop, you never say ‘oh we need a break’ and you just wait until you get lucky.
“We always try to do our best and come up with the best with what we can do.”
