When the lights go out for the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, race organisers at the Zandvoort circuit will say the race weekend was completely sold out (through some tricks), but the reality is different. If things remain as they are over the coming days, there will be many thousands of empty seats.

Monegasque company Platinium Group had bought 35,000 tickets for the Dutch Grand Prix but did not manage to sell them all. They say they were bothered that the Dutch Grand Prix was also selling tickets to foreign F1 fans itself and through other parties - despite an exclusivity contract with Platinium.

Many tickets are still on sale

Soon, the court in the Hague will decide whether Platinium will be financially compensated for this and thus not have to pay 3.8 million euros as yet for the initial purchase of the tickets to Dutch GP. Whatever the case, the tickets that Platinium Group did not sell in recent weeks do not yet have a new owner. Meanwhile, the company has sent 8,000 unsold tickets back to the Dutch Grand Prix, although on paper, they have been sold. Hence, the Dutch GP says the race is sold out.

Tickets are still available through the race's official website, including for Sunday. Hundreds of people are also still offering their tickets on the Grand Prix's resell platform. So, for late deciders, it is still possible to attend the racing spectacle this weekend.
