All was well for Yuki Tsunoda until the very end of the second free practice session at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, until the last seven minutes. With only a few minutes to go until the end of the session, Tsunoda crashed into the wall. Tsunoda clipped the inner wall on the last corner of the track. He then slid into the right wall after sustaining damage to his suspension. After he collided with the right side of the wall, the red flag was waved as his car was broken, and pieces of it were on the track. The reg flag continued until the last 45 seconds of the race, when the drivers (other than Isack Hadjar) were able to get in one lap.
After the end of the session, Tsunoda spoke to F1TV and said, "I just turned in too much and clipped the wall on the inside. Just had damage and after that I just had no control. Apologies to the team. The pace was looking good, but it’s a shame."
Tsunoda confident about Saturday's sessions
Before his untimely crash, Tsunoda was within three places of Verstappen. Tsunoda was ahead of most of the grid in sixth place, only behind the McLaren's, Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
When asked about his overall feelings about the weekend so far he said. "I mean the confidence level is pretty good. I was a bit compromised with the warm up and everything. So far pretty OK. I've got limited time with the long run, which I caused myself, so I can't complain anything I definitely would've wanted to end it up in a nice way for sure."
