Red Bull’s Max Verstappen says that he is looking to record his second F1 win of the season in Hungary, even with the massive power difference between his Renault engine and the Mercedes and Ferrari engines in the back of the top two teams.
Traditionally, Hungary is not a power circuit, and Daniel Ricciardo won for Red Bull in Budapest in 2014 for Red Bull.
Red Bull has opted to switch to Renault power for 2019 due to the massive deficit in power to the top two teams, as has been shown on multiple occasions during the 2018 season so far.
The engine situation has left them as third favourites for most races this season, but the layout of the Hungaroring should suit the Red Bull.
Max Verstappen believes that he and Red Bull can pull off a shock this weekend behind the Iron Curtain.
“I think our car is good enough to do it [win], I just hope we don’t lose too much with the straight-line speed,” Verstappen said.
“We will just have to wait and see over the weekend how that is going to progress. We just have to focus on getting a good setup on the car.
“For everyone there is more focus on qualifying because after qualifying you focus on a good start and normally that’s your race. You just have to keep it on track.”
The Dutchman has always been in the points on his previous visits to Hungary, but has never stepped on the podium, will that change this weekend?
