Max Verstappen may well be helped by Pirelli in 2023. Mario Isola tells Motorsport.com that for 2023 they are working on a tyre that will reduce understeer.
Although Verstappen has already won six of the first nine races in 2022, it is also clear that the reigning world champion is not a big fan of the balance of the new F1 cars. Since the new regulations, these cars suffer from understeer, while drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Verstappen prefer oversteer.
Pirelli's top man says that they are working on a new tyre for 2023. They are mainly looking at the front tyre. The rear tyre is already very strong, which makes the cars tend to understeer. The front tyre will have to be made stronger to solve this problem in 2023.
The question is whether changing the tyre will also improve the balance of the whole car. The tyres have a big influence on performance, but Isola says that the aerodynamics of the car also play a crucial role. The aerodynamics will have to improve as well if the RB18/RB19 is to be Verstappen's favourite.
Correct..while they knew others will be facing more headache trying to solve porpoising and lack of engine superiority, FIA has already prep a trophy for RB on a silver platter...lolz
Gotta take help where you can get it. He did it last year, no reason to stop now.
Interesting that the article says Hamilton and Leclerc like oversteer too yet in the headline only Verstappen gets singled out as being 'helped' by Pirelli, as if they're specifically doing it for him.
Actually Hamilton prefers slight undesteer but you are right with LeClerc. Why else would Pirelli feel the need to do it unless all the drivers complained of the same thing? It doesn't have to be said that Pirelli are deliberately helping him (that may or may not be true), but... this change 'would' help Max regardless.
Get in there!!! Pirelli changed the tyres on Merc’s insistence a few years back.
Lewis doesn't prefer oversteer, he's talked a few times about preferring a stable rear.
So you say yourself that Hamilton, Leclerc and Verstappen prefer cars that oversteer, but somehow a car that oversteers more is just gonna benefit Verstappen?
Only Max, Charles and Daniel on the current grid prefer to have a pointy car which is very difficult to drive. May be Alonso can do it too.
Redbull said they have gotten on top of the understeer problem which Max had with his setup. But, since Charles was starting from the back in Canada we never got to see the actual improvement in Qualifying.
Well yes have helped Redbull in previous years, nothing wrong with that. The Redbull rocketship is the complete package tyre deg is at a minimum with Redbull . Congratulations Redbull team you guys nailed the regs this season.
This is like some parallel universe, where everything is the other way around.??
Hehe :) Fortunes have turned though to be fair. And when it goes your way, it just seems to keep going your way.
