Verstappen's qualities still cause astonishment: 'Insane'

Jenson Button is still impressed by the qualities of Max Verstappen. The former Formula 1 driver sees the Dutchman competing for the world title this season and has a lot of respect for him. He tells that in conversation with Total-motorsport.com.

For years Verstappen had to acknowledge his superiority over Lewis Hamilton, but last season the driver of Red Bull Racing managed to compete for the world title for the first time in his career. During the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi, he managed to finish ahead of Hamilton, winning the world championship.

Button enjoys Verstappen's qualities

This season Ferrari seems to bring the better car to the track for the time being, but Verstappen manages to stay close to rival Charles Leclerc. According to Button, both drivers have a lot in common in terms of driving style. Verstappen, however, he gives the best odds.

"I think Max goes for every opportunity," the former Formula 1 driver stated in the interview. "He’s got a unique style and that’s the difference. They’re both extremely skilled but I think what Max can do with a balance that isn’t good is insane."

Right point of view.

Always a joy to watch top talent like Max Verstappen race.

"They’re both extremely skilled but I think what Max can do with a balance that isn’t good is insane." Button remembers Turkey and Hungary where the RB was completely unbalanced because of wrong front wing adjustment and the Bottas crash.

All the experts on here. full of knowledge about racing 1000bhp F1 cars Challenging & knowing more than Button. A man who raced & beat Lewis The mind boggles

Like MB with a second a lap faster for 8 years... If there was a 3rd MB car Max would beat Nico and Lewis!!! And Max will have the 8th title today!....Driver is everything....

Which is it car or driver , cause for Lewis its the car , and Max its the driver . Please clarify.

Raoul Verschoor 28 April 2022 at 16:12+ 893

Max was always better then his teammates, Russel showed he's better then Hamilton, thus the explanation has been given.

Tristen 29 April 2022 at 22:57+ 2508

Clearly you can coumt that from p11 to p6 is 5 places which is a much greater benefit than 2 places??this explains your argument. I now understand the logic since the simple math does not make sense to you??

Tristen 29 April 2022 at 11:07+ 2508

Lucky????

JEM 29 April 2022 at 08:10+ 12682

Well in Tristen's defends, there was limited footage of Lewis and George in the video? Yet, I do not understand why George is lucky and Lewis isn't while they both benefited from the crash. Lewis was even more lucky, because he also benefited from the damage Alonso had, when Schumacher hit him. Apparently Lewis always has bad luck when he is not in front of his teammate.

Jeroentje 29 April 2022 at 07:18+ 20219

Lewis lost 1 place at the start ro the first chicane. But it seems Tristen is unable to see the truth even with the actual race footage I posted with it. I just don't get Lewis fans anymore. Closing their eyes from the truth and just ignore and deny it. I noticed this for many months already.

It’s unreal to imagine someone’s f1 IQ getting drastically lower every time he replies - it’s bizzare! I think It should be mandatory for him so pass an entry level assessment on the sport to engage on this platform.

Jeroentje 28 April 2022 at 23:37+ 20219

Lewis didn't gain places? I just told and showed you with the actual race footage they both gained 3 places with crashes in the 1st chicane. Damn man.. open your eyes. Lewis lost 1 place at the start to the 1st chicane and Russell had already won 2 in that same run to the 1st chicane. But sure, deflect from that truth and go to a total different race..

Tristen 28 April 2022 at 23:33+ 2508

Point is lewis was p12 after crash amd russel p6 due to lucky crash. Lewis didnt gain places like george did. Take us back to a fair rsce like the first one and australia before george got a SC and Lewis would beat him. Proved it in qually also

Jeroentje 28 April 2022 at 23:26+ 20219

lol, please watch your tone and watch the race again ok? Russell was P9 when they got to the 1st chicane since he passed 2 from start to the 1st chicane. Then 3 with the crash in the chicane. Same with Lewis with that crash, just that Lewis lost 1 place from P14 to P15 from the start to the chicane, and ended up P12 after the chicane. So again, truth hurts about Lewis right since both him and Russell won 3 places in the 1st chicane. https://youtu.be/vL0yww9nk9o

Tristen 28 April 2022 at 22:58+ 2508

3? Wow pleaae go watch again. Lewis made up2 places and lost both when he came out of the pit stop. Russel made up 5 places from p11 to p6. Then passed k mag for p5. Please go watch because you are lost??

Jeroentje 28 April 2022 at 21:54+ 20219

It is obvious you have not seen that race and so not want to hear the truth about Lewis. Russell passed 3 people in that 1st chicane crash yes. Next question for you, how many places did Lewis win in that chicane? Shall I answer it for you? 3 as well, Sainz, Ric and Schumacher.

JEM 28 April 2022 at 23:42+ 12682

I did, but I start to feel you didn't or you are not willing to see that Russell had a better start than Lewis. With the crash between Ricciardo and Sainz and the spin from Schumacher, George (and the same applies to Lewis) gained only 3 positions, but that doesn't explain the other 2 positions George gained. Those he won by having a good start. That is no luck and later in the race he made a daring but brilliant move on Magnussen. Please explain to me what Lewis did in the meantime, because I only remember him being stuck behind Gasly.

Tristen 28 April 2022 at 21:28+ 2508

How many overtakes did he have in the sprint? 0?he benefitted from a crash on the 1dt corner. Did you not watch the race smarty??????and made up 5 places

Jeroentje 29 April 2022 at 23:18+ 20219

I just showed you the video footage where it is clear that the pit lane was open still and they were just too late to pit. Lewis and the pit wall even mention this, come one and open your eyes and ears. Next time around it was closed yes, but it was open on the video still and they forgot/were too late. Again, their own fault. Did I say it was a mistake of Lewis? No, I didn't. He hestitated and was not sure the pit lane was open, the pit wall was too late. So it's both.

Tristen 29 April 2022 at 22:55+ 2508

I watched every part of it. The lane was clearly closed causimg him not to pit. Tbis benefited George since lewis would have come out p6 with new tyres and george would have had older tyres. Again please go watch yourself before just takimg the first opportunity to break lewis down

Jeroentje 29 April 2022 at 22:08+ 20219

Wrong again, Lewis could have pitted in Jeddah. Only after he passed the pit lane it closed a while later and the lap after he couldn't enter the pits anymore. Again, watch the race more carefully next time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTVnSp_q02o

Tristen 29 April 2022 at 15:55+ 2508

Well they couldnt pit him during jeddah because the pit lanes were closed for some reason. Every other race they pitted him fine but george benefitted from a free SC pit stop in australia

Raoul Verschoor 29 April 2022 at 15:37+ 893

Are you trying to sell this as a conspiracy theory? It's just bad work from Mercedes that they didn't pit Hamilton correctly..

Tristen 29 April 2022 at 11:08+ 2508

Funny how everytime there is a safefy car in the last 8 races it has counted against lewis. None for him but all against him. Noticed that yet?

We can all dream!!..But it ain't gonna happen! See Ja ..

Raoul Verschoor 29 April 2022 at 09:23+ 893

Crashes and safety cars are part of the game, otherwise Max would be leading the championship, Sainz and Check would be a lot closer, it is what it is.

Tristen 28 April 2022 at 20:41+ 2508

Fair statement. The only fair race so Lewis won. So lets give it another chance eithouta SC or crash benefitting a driver

Raoul Verschoor 28 April 2022 at 20:02+ 893

We'll see how this ages.

JEM 28 April 2022 at 21:03+ 12682

In Imola, Russell wasn't lucky nor did he benefited from a safety car. He was just quicker in that race and I think he did have a very good race compared to Lewis.

Mich Ferr 29 April 2022 at 09:20+ 1639

Lewis got lucky 8 straight years. Could only get 6 driver titles.

I think you’ve clearly run out of ‘straws’ mate, you f1 acumen is diminishing quite drastically now. Take a break and come back when you can make sense again.

Tristen 28 April 2022 at 19:04+ 2508

Russel has gotten lucly 3 times in 4 rwces eith safety cars and crashes. Without that lewis would beat him like in 1st race smarty

Jeroentje 28 April 2022 at 16:40+ 20219

Ok, I'll bite for once and will ask you a serious question. Hopefully you can answer serious this time too. What do you think it is, car or driver? MB finished 1-2 in the championship 2014-2020 besides 2017 and 2018 only just because Bottas screwed up (because the car should have been 2nd in the championship as well). Was it mainly the car or driver in those years? I say mainly because of course you need a driver too, as shown in 2017 and 2018. If RB will finish 1-2 in the championship then yes, you can say the car was the best as well. But Max has shown to get the most out of the car, more than his teammates. And I always said Lewis is a quick driver as well, but you can't deny the fact that almost everyone would have been champion in that MB car from 2014-2020. Just look at the gaps in some years, that was up to the car and not the driver.

@VeganWarrior You care to reply still to my serious comment and question posted at 28-04-2022 15:40?

Ani 29 April 2022 at 03:35+ 170

All all the things I read in this comment section this is the one I most agree with. It's plain and simple. What wins a championship? A faster and better driver or a superior car? A superior car. Its all about perception. What happens if the faster and better driver has an inferior car? At the end of the day, you will be judge by your success. All these back and forth debates about who's the better driver can only be measured by success. Do you think that someone who has one 7 championships care if people say that someone who has won only one championship is better than him?

Statistics in F1 today only gives you a summary but the details are hidden. Vettel has 4WDC’s and Alonso has 2 yet Alonso is in the top 10 greatest of all time, Vettel would not make a top 25 list. Alonso beat Schumi for both of his WDC’s and at the end of 2004 Schumi looked UNBEATABLE! Alonso beat him in 2005 and then did it again in 2006 against Schumi in the Ferrari which was superior to the Renault. Vettel won 4WDC’s in a dominant RB but when he drove competitive cars he wasn’t close to a great driver. Vettel losing to Ricciardo in 2014 and then being outclassed by the young and talented Leclerc in their first 2yrs as teammates at Ferrari exposed Vettel as a very good driver but GREAT he was/is NOT!

Maybe you should ‘warrior’ more about F1 than what you do on Vegan. It’s NOT mentioned because the Ferrari is superior than the RB this year L. And how do you agree with the article but you don’t agree with the same article in as much as one sentence. It’s a very ‘slippery slope’ for Lewis fans now because he everything you say/insinuate/claim about other drivers could undermine Lewis achievements if the perception is the same with Lewis.
