Sebastian Vettel was left to rue an opportunity wasted after missing out on pole position to teammate Kimi Raikkonen. The German voiced his displeasure over team radio after the session on the cool down lap, telling his Ferrari team "we will speak later" about the incident.
Vettel missed out on a tow from his teammate on their first runs during final qualifying, with Raikkonen getting the tow during their first runs. Ferrari then sent out their drivers in the exact same order with Vettel in front going into the final laps.
Vettel also missed a tow from his championship rival Lewis Hamilton who was too far ahead to gain any benefit from being behind him. After losing provisional pole position to his teammate, Vettel was short on his response to his race engineer who had informed him of a front-row lockout with him in second.
"To be honest it was not a tidy lap i think the other laps were actually better ones. I lost time pretty much everywhere," Vettel said after to the media.
"It was just not a good lap and not good enough. Lucky to get second and not third, but it's just not good enough.
"Clearly I wasn't happy but I don't tell you why.
"We have an order that changes every weekend and this weekend it was Kimi's turn to go second."
Perhaps a tactical decision from the team to ensure Raikkonen would line up ahead of title rival Hamilton, it will be very interesting to see if Ferrari swap the order around should Raikkonen be leading in the closing stages of the Italian Grand Prix.
