Lewis Hamilton qualified on pole for the 6th time at the
British Grand Prix earlier this afternoon. His rival,
Sebastian Vettel was just 0.044 seconds behind. But what does the story of qualifying say about the British Grand Prix?
On the
Silverstone track, it's clear Mercedes and Ferrari are pretty much level. The Italians may have the slight upper hand if it wasn't for the magic of Lewis Hamilton.
What we do know is, Hamilton will be surrounded by Red going into the first corner. His team-mate Valtteri Bottas failed to make it onto the front row for the first time in 3 weekends. He left the door open for Kimi Raikkonen to blast into 3rd place. The first corner will be fascinating.
Red Bull have been struggling for pace all day. We know they'll be needing some luck in tomorrow's Grand Prix. Damon Hill has already suggested the team will need some tyre blistering on the Mercedes and Ferrari cars if they are to get a good result.
Charles Leclerc lines up in ninth place. His phenomenal form continues as he manages to get a Sauber into Q3 for the second time this season. He has the Haas cars in front of him, and a fantastic battle could develop between these three drivers.
Heading further back and Renault had another disappointing session. Sainz failed to make it into Q2, but more significantly for the race, Hulkenberg starts in the middle of two Force India drivers.
The start of the race will have to be managed well by Renault if they're to avoid another cut in points difference. Another battle that is not only going to be interesting on the track but also on the bigger picture of the championship.
It's sure set up to be a great Grand Prix. What expectations do you have for the race?
