The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a track that many
Formula 1 fans look back on with great pleasure. This was the track where a very young
Max Verstappen in his first race for
Red Bull Racing, after a swap with
Daniil Kvyat, took his first victory. But who is the driver with the most wins on the track?
Once
Verstappen's textbook victory was also the last time he managed to win it. At the track that every driver can almost dream about because of the tests that were held there in the past, even
Sebastian Vettel only managed to win once. This was in 2011, and he did this also in a Red Bull.
Twice
Fernando Alonso, immensely popular in his native country, won twice on his home circuit. He did so in 2006 with a Renault and in 2013 with a
Ferrari.
Kimi Raikkonen did not manage to overtake
Max Verstappen in 2016, but then he himself already won twice in Catalonia. In 2005 and 2008 that is, with a
McLaren and a Ferrari respectively.
Five times (!!!)
Clear frontrunner is of course
Lewis Hamilton. The current world champion crossed the finish line first no less than five times. He managed to win it for the first time in 2014, but from 2017 onwards the Briton has even been a constant victor of the
Spanish Grand Prix. He did this each time in a Mercedes, by the way. We will soon see if Verstappen can put an end to Hamilton's victory series.
