Max Verstappen impressively put the Hungarian Grand Prix to his name by coming back to P1 after starting from tenth on the grid. This also gave him a convincing win in the Driver of the Day vote. But will he also be voted the GPblog Driver of the Day?

Verstappen had an eventful race. Together with team-mate Sergio Perez, he moved up through the field, steadily moving into the top three. Red Bull Racing's excellent strategy allowed him to take the lead after the second set of pitstops and not relinquish it, despite making a spectacular 360 after overtaking Charles Leclerc.

Perez also drove a fine race, but fell just short of attacking for the final podium position and the late virtual safety car prevented him from making an attempt. Mercedes' strategists also proved to be wide awake, and by extending his first stint Lewis Hamilton was able to make up a lot of ground in the final stages of the race. He outpaced George Russell, who had a disappointing second stint after starting strongly from pole position.
