After completing his own mega comeback,
Claire Williams is asking
Robert Kubica to give
Williams some "fighting spirit' as they hope to bounce back from a disappointing 2018 season.
Kubica will complete his comeback from a life-changing rally crash when he drives out of the
Williams garage as a
Formula 1 driver in Australia. Last season Williams picked up just seven points over 21 races.
"Next year - is a new start for Williams and I spent a lot of time with Robert over the course of the year. I really enjoy his company, just his fighting spirit. We need that in this team at the moment," Claire Williams told Autosport.
"We need everybody pushing, and I think Robert is going to be a great addition for us for 2019 and beyond."
Williams faces a reshuffle next season as both Sergey Sirotkin and Lance Stroll walked through the exit door. British youngster
George Russell will make his Formula 1 debut, but Kubica's role from 2018 will provide some important information for both drivers.
"One of the things that impress me most about Robert is the fact that he didn't get in the race seat for this year, yet he still took on the role of the reserve driver. That shows a lot about his personality," she added.
"He knows everybody in the team, he gets on well with everybody in the team, he's dedicated, he spends a lot of time back in the factory in order to help us drive our performance."
Putting Robert in the car is definitely a step in the right direction but what Williams really need is a decent bloody racing car. They've got the Mercedes engine so where is the problem? It appears to be in the design and engineering departments. I suggest they get Patrick Head back on the job immediately. Patrick knows how to build a racing car; Come on Williams, we all want to see you back where you belong, fighting for wins and podiums.
