Mercedes might be providing engines and talents to Force India, but the German team has no plan to take over the
Pink Panthers, Mercedes team principal
Toto Wolff has said.
The rumours of a potential take over gained traction after the Monaco Grand Prix, when Force India received team orders from Mercedes. Well, that's not confirmed, but (Mercedes junior) Esteban Ocon let Lewis Hamilton pass as if he was instructed to let him pass.
"Force India is a costumer that we know very well, but at the moment there are no plans of buying the team," Wolff explained to Sky Italia.
"After Monaco, I spoke to Esteban [Ocon] and he said that letting Lewis past wasn't because of a team order.
"You're connected to each other, but at the end of the day everyone is competing for his own race."
Maybe Ocon letting Hamilton past was a way of letting Mercedes know he's on their side? It definitely was on purpose, but the question remains the motive of Ocon. He might've just realized that he would never win a battle against Hamilton, or maybe he didn't want to anger Mercedes.
