Toto Wolff remains confident that Red Bull won't be any different when running with their Honda engine next season. He doesn't expect their competitiveness to dip.
Red Bull decided to terminate their engine partnership with Renault to join with Honda next season. Honda are already running their engines in the Toro Rosso car. With some reliability issues in the Toro Rosso, some fans are predicting a dip in performance.
Honda's work with McLaren during the previous three seasons didn't work out. But the Mercedes team principal doesn't see any reason why Honda will experience a repeat in the Red Bull.
"I have no doubt that they will be competitive," Toto Wolff told Motorsport.
"The collaboration will make another step between Toro Rosso, Honda and Red Bull for next year and with Red Bull's technical capabilities and resource they will certainly be of great assistance to make the power unit progress."
Red Bull won four World titles with Renault before Mercedes took over the limelight. Wolff believes that the new engine partnership could turn Red Bull back into title serious contenders in the longer term.
"Maybe short term, more work to do. But long-term, from where I sit, absolutely the right decision. I am looking forward to tougher fights and tougher battles with Red Bull-Honda," added Wolff.
Mercedes have had a bit of an easy ride over the past few years, but perhaps Toto wants to sweat a bit more!
