Mercedes are in a good position right now, they are overwhelming favourites to win both the constructors’ and drivers’ titles this year, outperforming Ferrari in the second half of the season by a big margin.
Lewis Hamilton has taken his driving to another level recently and Sebastian Vettel has not been able to keep up. The Brit’s form is the major factor in the constructors’ race too, with Mercedes now leading Ferrari by 37 points, just three fewer than his own lead in the drivers’ standings.
Despite this commanding lead, team boss Toto Wolff knows that things can turn around in a flash and has encouraged his Silver Arrows squad to keep fighting as hard as ever as they look to retain both championship for the fifth year in succession.
“There are no easy wins this season. We have to fight hard for every bit of performance in order to have a chance to fight for victories,” he said.
“We have a good track record in Sochi but we know that Ferrari and Red Bull will give it everything to break our winning streak, so we must fight as hard as ever to make sure we bring home as many points as possible.
“There are six races remaining and plenty of points to score, so it doesn’t give us any comfort, we will continue to concentrate on every single session, trying to optimise the car in every possible area – and we will go for the race win.”
It will definitely be an intriguing race on Sunday, with both Mercedes and Ferrari potentially going all out for the race win as the battle come ever closer to its conclusion.
