McLaren managed to secure third-place in the F1 Constructors' Championship.
Lando Norris and
Carlos Sainz secured P5 and P6, which was enough to leapfrog
Racing Point in the World Championship.
Next season,
Carlos Sainz will be a
Ferrari driver. Replacing the Spaniard is
Daniel Ricciardo.
McLaren CEO
Zak Brown believes this is the best driver line-up on and off the grid in
Formula 1.
"I think we have the most exciting line-up in F1 next year on and off track. Lando has come off a great first year, and Daniel is a 7-time winner," Brown told Sky Sports after the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Difficult season
Over the last two years, McLaren have been working hard to bounce back up the grid after a few years towards the bottom of the midfield. Brown says the team have faced many challenges over the last 12 months and all credit is given to the team members.
"I think it has been a really difficult season in the public spotlight and to bring the investment in this year and the job that Lando and Carlos have done and all the team. Credit to all 800 people in the team that got it all together this year," Brown added.
"That was a good day today. It's been a great year actually."
