Trouble is, there's a huge difference between complimenting someone whom you've just beaten, and complimenting someone who's just beaten you... Lewis and Toto are both great at the former, but I've never seen them do the latter...it's always "oh the car's too fast, I couldn't possibly compete". While not explicitly said, it's very much to the tune of "oh I'm still the better driver/team boss/etc., and would clearly have won in the same machinery". Sometimes another driver does delivery a truly exceptional race (or season), and it's the mature and self-confident thing to praise this . Now this is very different to any ridiculous sweeping acceptance of another driver just being "better" - that argument's simply reductio ad absurdum. Some of Lewis' achievements in the past have been exemplary (and he was praised by the other drivers for it). Now I may have just forgotten something, but I've never seen Lewis deliver the same praise without some matching dig about the machinery being better...01-11-2022 16:42

Please re-read my comment - I said "during their time in F1", not this season. However, you are conveniently forgetting the "support rod" incident in Canada. Every other team said that MB clearly had a prior heads up on the rule change, and MB neatly declined to use the ready made part to avoid a clear scandal. If insider information isn't cheating, not sure what is...31-10-2022 13:02

Woooow....so that rules out anyone supporting Ferrari, MB, RB, Alpine (when they were Renault), Aston Martin (as them, and as Force India), Williams and Alpha (when they were Sauber) - all have been caught "cheating" (at least once) during their time in F1. What team's left to support then (according to you)???28-10-2022 17:43

Well Vegan, that's nonsensical. You're conflating the leak (information available to a select few before publication) with a lack of publication at all. I hardly believe that when the FIA did announce non compliance that the media outlets wouldn't have gone crazy - in fact more so, because it wouldn't have all been "rumour and speculation" at the time, it would have been fact. If anything, the early leak dampened the furore as everyone expected the end result, which was actually counter intuitive for Merc and Ferrari. The story here (which Ralf is entirely correct about) is that the FIA has a leak at all regarding its most sensitive of reports and investigations. The natural assumption, is that if this data is being leaked, there's a fair chance that upcoming technical directives and regulations might also be leaked to a select few teams. I can't understand why the media outlets aren't latching onto this aspect. You might also want to check the difference between "criminal" in the legal sense, and "criminal" in the colloquial... RB's breach of the cap is sporting and competition liability (very serious admittedly, and likely to be dealt with, but in no way criminal). Leaks of confidential info and IP could (in the right circumstances) be criminal. How is that being glossed over, or even defended?!13-10-2022 10:43

Just checking here...but the flexi floor "scandal" (i.e. cheating Ferrari and RB etc. etc.) now isn't a scandal and was just part of MB's imagination...? Honestly just checking, it's hard to keep up with Toto's latest announcements. It was interesting that MB accused RB of exceeding the cost cap directly, and Ferrari just slated "whichever team" exceeded it. Would be kinda funny if the team in breach was MB and Ferrari have been sat there wondering what Toto's been smoking since Singapore.05-10-2022 18:33

Devvvv /Vegan - just wow. Okay, let's take this piece by piece: i) Please can you explain which team dominated in 2010 and 2012...I really couldn't work it out between McLaren/Ferrari/RBR in 2010 and Ferrari/RBR in 2012? ii) With the 2014+ token system, locking in an admittedly excellently designed engine, but one only available (through engine mapping) to one team on the grid, how were the remaining teams supposed to find parity without amending the regulations? I do believe (very strongly) that the token system was the worst tinkering by Ecclestone in his entire tenure, as it guaranteed 4+ years of uncompetitive racing.27-09-2022 10:58

Vegan...is that you? The writing style and phraseology is remarkably similar if not. Don't fancy typing it all out again, but pretty sure we've already been through the 2017-2020 stats, and not a clue where the "Max was nowhere" comments (a direct copy and paste) come from. What do you mean there?21-09-2022 18:25

Nah - the MB playbook is "if you can't beat then, appeal against them and change the rules"...the mighty MB could never deign to "copy" another team lol21-09-2022 12:05
