The NASCAR race at Talladega's super speedway is known for the fact that few cars reach the finish line without damage, and on Sunday evening the drivers made it very colourful again. It did result in a very exciting final lap.
When a race under a yellow flag situation threatened to end the race, NASCAR has what is known as overtime. In other words, they just keep on driving until they can finish under a green flag.
On Sunday evening, the race went into overtime three times after a crash. Even the last time, people went into the wall, but because this happened in the very last lap, the race was finished.
In the end, a group of about eight drivers stormed to the finish line. On the way, they bumped into each other and against the wall a few more times. With a minimal difference, Danny Hamlin managed to reach them first.
He was then booed by the crowd because he had crossed the yellow line in the last corner on the inside of the track. That is forbidden in NASCAR, but it was overlooked by the race management because he had to make an evasive maneuver.
