Mercedes has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the first day of
George Russell, who will make the big switch from
Williams in 2022. In the process, the young Briton once again demonstrates his talent for giving PowerPoint presentations, something he initially used to get into the spotlight of Toto Wolff.
The 2022
Formula 1 season has a big change in store for Russell: he is swapping the
Williams team for that of Mercedes. In doing so, he is no longer setting his sights on scoring a few points, but on winning races and maybe even the world title.
Russell addresses Mercedes employees
Recently, Russell visited the Mercedes plants in Brackley and Brixworth for the first time and tried out the team's simulator. The video also shows him taking a tour of the German racing stable's headquarters and getting to know its many employees.
He was also part of a presentation, in which he gave a short speech. The 23-year-old Briton showed years ago that he has a talent for this as well: Using a PowerPoint presentation he managed to convince Wolff that he belonged in the Mercedes junior program.
I really think that everybody is over valuing Russel. The new 2022 cars will further level that playing field as everyone needs to learn how to get on top of them and nobody won't have such a big advantage of familiarity with these new package. All in all im saying SLH will soundly beat Russell this season.
That’s exactly the point. Since everyone has to get used to a totally new car, the ‘old driver’ at the team will not have any prior advantage and everyone starts on a level playing field.
That being the case, drivers like Russell (and Charles too) will be the drivers who can get used to a new car very quickly, by being GP3 and F2 champions in their rookie years.
Indeed, They both reminds me of a guy who was supposed to be the Next Big deal coming out of Gp2 and Gp3, but also how good Russell & Charles are is remains to be seen, They both had a tendency to make mistakes and had few truly awful lucks. Charles and Russell barely both outperformed of Sainz & N. Llatifi. While SLH in identical equipment. Not everyone can be SLH. He embarrassed Bottas with his performance.
Mercedes has got a real gem of a driver in Russell. He is their longer term WDC hope for the team.
We have not seen the 'huge points' from him in F1 because of the uncompetitive car that he has been driving for the past 3 seasons, but his qualifying results (especially in wet conditions at SPA last year) or his superb drive at Sakhir in 2020, gives us a glimpse of what he is capable of doing in a competitive car.
Furthermore, his qualifying records against his team mates for his last 5 race seasons and his championship wins in GP3 & F2 in his very first year at the category, shows that he can get comfortable and quick in a new car straight away.
With this year regulations changes, he will definitely be quicker than Hami in the new car and if Mercedes does produce a championship winning contender car, Russell will be the 2022 WDC.
Hamilton can be his back-up team mate like what Bottas have been doing for him for the past 5 years.
Totally agree on all points especially if Mercedes produce a contender car they have a driver that can do it justice.
And it won't be Masi's fault!!......Then we can call Lewis Hamibot....hahahaha
No question Mercedes are rejoicing the welcoming of George.
Out with the old, broken down, overrated, whining, attention seeking sore loser and in with the real deal of a human being who they look to in restoring the image of this team.
What sort of story is this man.
I didn't get where I am today by knowing how to use powerful point products.
George needs to focus on his DRS overtakes, I'm the master guys..
You're the master? Is that some kind of Jedi speak?
I suspect a talent for driving the car bloody quickly will be useful, too.
