Sauber have announced that
Valtteri Bottas and
Guanyu Zhou will leave the team at the end of the season. The two teammates joined in 2022 together, and after three seasons, neither could retain their seat after the Audi takeover.
Sauber (currently running under the name Stake
F1, soon-to-become Audi) have confirmed that neither
Valtteri Bottas nor
Guanyu Zhou will remain at the team next season. The team have confirmed early on in the 2024 season that
Nico Hulkenberg will join the Audi project.
Previously, Bottas was a contender for the second seat next season, and Swiss medium Blick rumoured that the Finnish driver has signed a contract for this season. As now other than at Sauber, there is only one vacant seat for 2025 in the Red Bull family at VCARB, this means neither driver will remain in the competition.
Formula 2 driver Gabriel Bortoleto, who leads the feeder series' championship and is a
McLaren development driver, is the driver rumoured to be joining for next season, but COO and CTO
Mattia Binotto has previously said they are happy to take their time. The Italian also told
Corriere della Sera that they are evaluating Mick Schumacher.
