Official: TWG GM Performance Power Units will be an F1 engine supplier as of 2029

In a press release it's been announced that the company born under TWG Motosports and General Motors for the purpose of building power units for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team set to join the grid as of next season, TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC., has received official power unit supplier status by the FIA. However, their power units will not be seen in F1 for a while yet.
"The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will join the grid in 2026 and utilize Ferrari power units until the GM engines are homologated for racing use. Development and testing of the team’s Formula 1 prototype engine technology is ongoing while plans are under way to open a dedicated facility for GM Performance Power Units near GM’s Charlotte Technical Center in 2026," the press release said.
Russ O’Blenes, CEO of the TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC., said: “With this approval from FIA, we will continue to accelerate our efforts to bring an American-built F1 power unit to the grid."
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, also reacted to the news. “Over two years ago, the FIA approved the entry of an eleventh team into the FIA Formula One World Championship, guided by my vision to expand the grid and bring new talent and opportunity to our sport. Although the process was at times challenging, the progress we see today affirms the journey has been worthwhile.“
