Sergio Perez will partner
Max Verstappen at Red Bull for the 2021
Formula 1 season.
Red Bull Racing chooses
Sergio Perez as the replacement for
Alexander Albon and thus responds to the call for an experienced second driver.
Red Bull Racing have been struggling since the departure of
Daniel Ricciardo with the position of the second driver. Verstappen is a clear number one, but
Pierre Gasly and
Alexander Albon were both unable to meet the expectations of that seat. In the search for an ideal number two, Red Bull ended up at Perez.
Perez was looking for a seat in
Formula 1 since his contract with
Racing Point was torn apart. The Mexican had to make way for
Sebastian Vettel and a clause in Perez's contract made it easy for Lawrence Stroll to distance himself from him. Now Perez himself has not got off worse.
At Red Bull, Perez is actually joining a top team for the first time. In 2013 he got the chance at
McLaren, but that fell into disrepair. Perez also wasted that chance with his wild performance. Is Perez the right man next to Verstappen or will the Dutchman wear out another teammate in 2021?
