Last week, it was announced that Adrian Newey will join Aston Martin and design their Formula 1 car from 2025. The highly regarded designer comes over from Red Bull Racing, where he enjoyed years of success. Former F1 world champion Nigel Mansell thinks Ferrari have missed out on a game-changing opportunity.
According to Mansell, Ferrari have made a mistake in not doing more to tempt Newey to their team. "Ferrari, I love them. I love them. I really do, but they lost an opportunity because whoever gets Adrian Newey is almost assured of having a fantastic few years. And I think Aston Martin have done something very special in securing his services," the Brit said to Topoffshoresportsbooks.com.
By signing the designer, Mansell thinks Aston Martin have struck gold. The former Ferrari and Williams driver thinks Newey will make a big impact at his new team. "I think people have underestimated as well that I don't think Adrian was totally happy in the last few years with Red Bull and what a fantastic job he's done and I think now being in the UK, being with Aston Martin, I think Adrian will find a little bit more energy and a bit more direction," Mansell said.
Newey is leaving Red Bull after almost 20 seasons, during which he has enjoyed the greatest successes in the Austrian-owned team's history. Newey is known for designing championship-winning cars and has helped Red Bull achieve six constructors championships.

Ferrari is just too huge and too 'corporaty' to give that much power and seniority to Newey, like what Lawrence has given to him at AM. At Ferrari, they wanted a Senior Technical Officer or at most an Engineering Director, but was still going to have to report to the TP. At AM, he reports directly to Lawrence, the Company Excutive Chairman and does not even report to the Team CEO. That is how senior his position is in the company.
I was a huge fan of yours Nigel, but only while you had a crash helmet on and driving the car, outside of it not so much, at the age that Adrian is now I doubt very much if he would be interested in a move to Italy irrespective of what Ferrari had to offer, I wonder if behind closed doors that Adrian intended on going to Aston all along but was using Ferrari as a bargaining chip to increase the AM offer !!
"Herr Flick 4,4k I was a huge fan of yours Nigel, but only while you had a crash helmet on and driving the car, outside of it not so much..." Vorsicht Herr Flick. I was called out as a hater when I said a particular driver was great with the brain bucket on but when it was off not so much. Some here can't understand that concept. Now, off to take out me missus ??
Morning ibo, tbh we've all got our favourite drivers and obviously the ones we don't like /support, it's really all about having our own opinions isn't it, although some of the comment threads can get a bit lively, I try to keep it a bit light by injecting some 'humour' although I do fail from time to time, I just have to remind myself that I may not always be right but I'm never wrong ??
Morning me good man. I've not seen one of your posts 'fail'. I enjoy the read meself. I used to have drivers and teams I would favour more than others but those daze are decades in the past. I now wish we'd have 20 different drivers on the podium. " I may not always be right but I'm never wrong." Tis similar to what I tell the kids on our bicycle race team... I never lose. I either win or I learn something.
