It was recently announced that the engine of Max Verstappen has received a 'secret' update in Belgium. It concerns a new Energy Store, which would be lighter and more efficient than its predecessor. Toyoharu Tanabe, technical director at Honda Racing, explains that the update was released considerably earlier than the engine supplier had planned.

The goal was 2022, but at Honda, they saw the need to bring the update forward. "Battery development takes a lot of time, " the Japanese explained. "But we already had a lot of know-how in that area through our mass production vehicles. We worked hard to release this update earlier than intended."

Battery update brought forward by Honda

"We want to do everything we can in the midst of this tough fight, and with that in mind we have accelerated the plan," he continued. According to Tanabe, the new Energy Store significantly narrows the gap with the competition. "Last year, the electrical part was a weak point. I think the difference has been reduced by making the part more efficient and lighter."

Where is the improvement most noticeable? "I think the performance in both the race and qualifying is more efficient and effective," says Tanabe, who also points out that Max Verstappen will be prioritised for the new part. "First Verstappen, then Sergio Perez and then Pierre Gasly," Tanabe said.

This clearly shows RB is not keen on constructors which is absolutely shocking,if they want to bring any updates they would have given equal important to both to win constructor but this clearly shows RB is only keen on max which driver championship not on checo...checo is just a support driver.....that is y checo is struggling with time gap with max... Also RB all second drivers always struggle to contribute up to an expectations.RB is not allcomplete team..... feel sorry for checo.....

And you are quite sure that RB has enough bits to supply both cars?

The same way Ferrari has enough to put their upgrade into both cars?

Perhaps both teams have enough bits. Not my, nor your call.

Just watch the sport.

Copy and paste much?

I think Merc should have used an upgrade on Bottas's engine when they used the 4th unit. Merc either didn't have one, which is a fail on their part, or decided not to. Either way, it was within their purview. Oppertunity missed.

I think they out of upgrades, the straight line speed and power is not their problem this season. It's the low rake concept thats suffered after the new reg, the car has reached the max upgrade point sadly. They rest of the seasons gonna be aero tweaks and setup changes.

Please explain. Red Bull and Honda are within the rules. Are Ferrari "snakes" as well being compliant in the rules? The same rules apply to Merc. If they decide to upgrade their power unit its within the rules. Toro ahiykd have at it.

I'll wait but not hold my breath.
