On Thursday it was announced that Red Bull Racing could write off the second engines of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen because of the damage sustained in crashes in Hungary and Great Britain. According to Verstappen F1 needs to look at how this can be resolved more fairly.

With only three engines allowed to be used each season, it's pretty sour for Red Bull Racing that Perez's and Verstappen's second engine was written off by a crash. In England, Verstappen crashed with Lewis Hamilton, and in Hungary the damage to Perez was at the hands of a mistake by Valtteri Bottas.

Verstappen wants new system

Red Bull will have to pay for it now because once the fourth engine is taken, they will incur a grid penalty. It also already had to pay for all the costs, while it still has to stay under the budget cap. ''I do think we need to talk about this as Formula 1. If someone crashes into you and you have to replace a part and get a penalty because of that, that's not what it should be'', Verstappen said on Thursday according to the AD.

According to the Dutchman, such a system immediately has a big advantage. ''And if the team has to pay for any damage caused by someone else, maybe you get less stupid actions in the first lap. Then you think more about the possible impact on yourself and the team'', concludes the Red Bull Racing driver.
