A large proportion of Dutch F1 fans started watching the sport in particular when Max Verstappen entered the fray. The way they know Sebastian Vettel is probably as the talented, intelligent driver who came close to becoming world champion once more in 2017 and 2018 but failed to do so.
However, the German was just as driven and fiery as Verstappen in his young world championship years (2010-2013), which did not sit well with every opponent. Vettel joins Austrian Sport und Talk on ServusTV and praises Max's current driving style - one that many a Vettel connoisseur might recognise back to the spunk the German once had when he himself was in the running for the world championship.
The former world champion points out that Max does things with the car that he does not know if he could do. "[For example] manoeuvres, in terms of overtaking, and [at] certain track conditions. He already has an incredible feel for the car, incredible control and enjoys situations extremely quickly."
Vettel says it is one thing to think about your manoeuvres, but actually executing them is quite another. "To try it so quickly and immediately, you can only take your hat off to that," he says of Max. "I hope it continues like that for him and that he has fun above all."
In 2017 and 2018, when Vettel drove a car at Ferrari that was competitive enough to win the world championship, things still clashed at times between him and Verstappen. Consequently, many a Vettel and Verstappen fan did not always have a good time together. During these last few seasons, however, the relationship between the two has improved tremendously, both on and off the track. The German co-Red Bull world champion concludes his career with only praise for the young Dutchman.
As per usual, an article about an ex world champion ( Vettel ) praising the current world champion ( Verstappen ) and yet we have the usual bell ends commenting about another driver ( Hamilton ) who isn't even mentioned in the article, quite clearly he is always at the forefront of their minds during their waking hours !! Now then Ladies are you sure you haven't got a secret man -crush on LH and hatred and bile is the way you hide it !!
A very honest and sincere accolade from one true champion to another. No other current F1 driver matches the skills that Seb associates with Max.
But still he is nothing compared to the Great Lewis Hamilton! Maybe he is better in execution of the most challenging circumstances and yes, he took an inferior car to the W12 and beat Lewis in 2021 even tough Lewis and Bottas destroyed two RedBull cars and took him out of competition all within 3 races of each other. Max did lead more laps that season then all other driver combined but Lewis is really the best driver out there and deserves the most praise here on this blog. This year proved it! Lewis came in 6th place but only because he SACRIFICED himself in testing the improvements! Let's never forget how great Lewis really is here at GP Blog.
Yes, though Lewis failed to capture a single win or pole position, unlike his teammate, Lewis will always be the best. Even though he faultered in turn #5 in Abu Dhabi 2021 and let Max on the inside for an easy pass, I prefer to blame that whole thing on Masi. Lewis sacrificed himself for the team in 2022 and took ALL the bad luck as well for the team. I stand with Crofty and Kravitz, Lewis is the greatest for sure.
@F1HotFan, Not to mention Lewis's sublime skills the 1-2 times he topped FP 1 sessions.
