Changes to Circuit Zandvoort in 2023? Norris hopes so

All Formula 1 drivers praised the atmosphere at the Dutch Grand Prix last weekend, but there is also some constructive criticism. For example, Lando Norris said after Sunday that he would like to see some changes made to the Zandvoort circuit before 2023.

To NU.nl Norris tells that the organisation of the Dutch GP could think about changing the Tarzan curve. There was overtaking, but according to the McLaren driver that was only because of the virtual safety car, safety car and the different tyres and strategies that were used. "Only that made the difference."

Norris has suggestion for Zandvoort

Compared to the 2021 edition, the DRS zone was a bit longer, it was already activated before the Arie-Luyendijk corner. It was a welcome addition, but if you really want more overtaking, Turn 1 needs to be addressed. "They need to make the braking zone longer and the corner sharper. That will provide more opportunities and possibly an even longer DRS zone," Norris said.

The current world championship number seven argues that the braking area at the end of the straight is simply too short. As a result, drivers go through the corner too fast, making it 'almost impossible' to outbrake someone.

This weekend, circuit director Robert van Overdijk spoke with F1 boss Stefano Domenicali about possible adjustments. What this means in practice is not (yet) clear, but at Zandvoort they are certainly open to changes to the lay-out in the future.
