Red Bull Racing had the FIA investigate the rear axle of Mercedes' W12, but the international motorsport federation found nothing wrong with it. This caused mixed feelings for Mercedes, namely one of frustration and hilarity. According to the Brackley team, it was already clear that there was nothing illegal to be found.
That writes Auto, Motor und Sport. 'It caused frustration because such investigations take up time, cost and personnel. On the other hand, there was hilarity because Red Bull got it wrong once again,' the German medium writes.
According to Mercedes, Red Bull could have known that the rear end collapses on the straights. "We haven't touched the rear suspension since the beginning of 2020. It was one of the parts that stayed the same with us," says someone from the German team. Each team had two tokens to put in last winter in terms of development and Mercedes used them for other parts of the car.
However, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas may only now be able to take full advantage of the find. At the start of the season, Mercedes struggled to find downforce at the rear and that meant giving up something at the front to keep the car balanced. Since the Silverstone update, the rear downforce has been improved, giving engineers more freedom in tuning.
Since a number of Grands Prix, the set-up can be played with more, which has led to the trick being used more optimally. It is important to note that the number of tenths that can be gained on the straight depends on the circuit. 'The more fast corners a track has, the less you can lower the rear end at high speeds. Otherwise, you would pay too high a price in the corners', says AMS.
Mercedes don’t like that for once in 7 years they actually have a team beating them. They’ve had it all their own way. They were crying earlier about Red Bulls flexi wings and got stricter rules in and that didn’t do anything to Red Bull. They get protected by the media and FIA cause they’re a manufacturer and they don’t want a drinks company out performing them
There should be imposed a large fine for wrongfully challenging that uses both a team and FIA officials time. That way a team (Red Bull) will think twice before challenging.
Yeah but look back to when max and Sainz were at Toro roso together and Carlos was as quick if not faster if you took out the mechanical failure’s he was better than max. And look how gasly is doing in the Red Bull “B” team he’s not that slow Red Bull is all built around Max. He’s over rated look at how Russell and Norris do in much slower cars.
The only reason he is faster than Perez is because poor Checo can't even get them to build him a setup. Why do you think they didn't move heaven and Earth to get Bottas? They know he'd whip the pants off their boy in equal equipment.
Who whines and complain more than red bull you're just an idiot who knows nothing about F1
It is clear that Red Bull are guilty of wasting the FIA resources by frivoless testing - let's consider an outcome. If unjustified the complaining team get 5 points deducted from constructors points.
So desperate are Red Bull. They'll go o any lengths to help themselves win by disingenuous methods. Marko and Horner are like a couple of spoiled kids. The Merc W12 is just fine and it's legal. RB need to concentrate on their own things and remember their history with dodgy cars.
i do remember something about a rear wing. one that was legal but some team starten whining about it. cant really remeber who it was. do you?
That was Mercedes. A video showed RB's wing flexing so much more than the Merc one did. FIA can't test for race condition flex so the issue was raised about it conforming to the rules. Red Bull have whinged about the Mercs front wing, floor and now rear axle. They don't stop. My point stands, RB are the worst whingers.
well, the merc front wing had a bigger flex to the rest of the teams as the rear wing of rbr had. but again this will not be looked into by the FIA.
I remember a rear wing that was designed to pass a test but that was not legal.
i remember something called DAS. suspension altering that was to expencive to make and got 1 year to have some advantage from it. while it was really easy to just block the system
What mention is there here of whining and crying by Mercedes? They had a laugh about it. Any reasonable, rational and logical person can see it was Red Bull who were whining and crying to the FIA to check on the Mercedes car. Which again showed to be perfectly legal. Red Bull whinge more than any other team on the grid. They always have done.
Red bull gives you whinge they say. Marko, Horner, Max and his daddy and all of their fans. It never stops
If it were me questioning Merceedes approach to a flexy rear suspension I'd want the FIA to tell me all is well. That way when I implement my version I know there isn't a doubt it's legal. But that's just me looking forward.
Redbull gets tips from Paul De resta you friendly sky i hate Lewis race commentator.
and you think RBR of any other team for that matter didnt know about it?
