Lewis Hamilton did not have his best weekend at Monza. On Saturday, he qualified only eighth. On Sunday, he was able to fight his way back in part, but there was no more in it than sixth place. Speaking to Viaplay, the seven-time world champion reacted to his race.

During the previous race weekend at Zandvoort, Hamilton did not advance to Q3. At Monza, he did, but it was not the hoped-for result. Partly due to a strategic choice, Hamilton managed to fight his way back to sixth place.

Hamilton happy with result

After the race, the Briton was asked whether sixth place was the maximum result: "I think so, yes. After the bad qualifying yesterday, [I was] stuck behind the Williams and the two McLarens at the start . [It] was difficult obviously losing the position at the beginning as well because I was on the hard tyre. But yeah I'm happy that we were able to get through them, which was not easy but we had the offset tyre which helped, but I think fifth and sixth was the best we would have done anyways. As a team so we just got to work hard to try and improve."

Strategic choice Hamilton

Hamilton sounded worried over the radio several times after having to drive quite a few laps on the medium tyre until the end of the race. However, this worked out well: "I was definitely nervous it wasn't going to last. It did drop off right right at the end but not more than the guys behind me. It was definitely a good choice."
