Mercedes has still not confirmed its drivers for 2021. Despite the fact that
Sebastian Vettel is not yet contracted next year, the German team seems to opt for the current lineup of
Lewis Hamilton and
Valtteri Bottas.
Daimler wants to keep its current duo
Daimler CEO Ola Källenius has announced that Mercedes is betting on a longer stay of the two drivers who are now driving with the team. For a long time Vettel seemed a formidable candidate for a spot at the Silver Arrows because of his German nationality and the fact that he is not yet under contract anywhere.
Small opening for Vettel?
Källenius spoke to Sky Deutschland that he likes to keep Hamilton and Bottas. Should one of the two drivers 'no longer feel like it', then the door is still open for Vettel.
Wolff also spoke to Sky earlier and said:
"I assume we'll continue with Lewis and Valtteri". Because of this the chance of a seat of Mercedes protégé
George Russell with the team seems to have been lost.
