For Red Bull Racing, the win in the Canadian Grand Prix is a special one, as it marks the team's 100th F1 victory. Moreover, Max Verstappen equalled Ayrton Senna's number of wins, but there is more. Indeed, Adrian Newey recorded his 200th win in the king class of motorsport.
Newey let Sky Sports know afterwards:"It’s really special, this would’ve been my first here in 1991 but Nigel was waving and forgot to change down [gear]. Max is on it, we have all learnt from that, until you cross the line you can’t count it. It has been an amazing journey, my dream was always to be an engineer in motoracing. When I got my first job and salary, that was the big moment. Everything else has been a bonus."
Asked where exactly the more recent victories stand in the list of greatest wins, the top designer replied, "They are all special. The first one in Mexico stands out. And the ones where the championship has gone down to the wire. Very often Abu Dhabi with Sebasitian [Vettel] against Fernando [Alonso], and Max against Lewis [Hamilton]."
Newey picked up half of his 200 wins at Red Bull. And more are most likely to follow. "I am lucky enough to be doing what I always wanted to do. Enjoyed the job, loved it. Of course my career can’t go on for ever. As long as the team wants me, and I keep enjoying it, then I’ll keep going. but realistically that’s on the countdown, when that day is I don’t know."
