'Red Bull Powertrains is chasing few rule changes for 2025 engine'

After qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix the directors of Formula 1 will have a meeting with all CEOs of the engine suppliers in Formula 1. The meeting is scheduled to discuss what the engines will look like in the pinnacle of motorsport from 2025 onwards. Audi and Porsche are also present, together with the current manufacturers.

"Tomorrow (July 3rd) will be a very important day," Olav Mol, Dutch F1-commentator, says in Formule 1 Café. At 17:00 the big meeting will be held. "That's not with team bosses, but with Stefano Domenicali, Ross Brawn and Jean Todt of the FIA. The CEOs of the companies currently supplying engines will also be there. Ola Källenius [Mercedes] is coming here for example, but also Dietrich Mateschitz. He is of course the CEO of Red Bull Powertrains."

Red Bull wants to change little

Porsche and Audi are exploring their options to join Formula 1. Whether they are actually willing to make the move will depend mainly on which way the engine goes. "Very important to them is biofuel and the amount of hybrid: more or less electric? One man wants to stay as it is, and that is Mateschitz. He's not waiting for development costs, that's why they did that engine freeze."

It could go several ways, and there's no way the knot will be tied after a few hours of meetings. There's a 99 percent chance that there will be follow-up meetings, so we won't get clarity in Austria just yet. Mol is certain that there will be no V8 or V10 engines, and that fully electric power units are also out of the question.
