According to Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer, Liam Lawson has been feeling overwhelmed by all the quick changes regarding his Formula 1 career. Bayer now thinks that Lawson has returned to his "old self".
Red Bull Racing is known for its cutthroat ways and rotating second seat. In that sense, Lawson's demotion was not a surprise. However, it was the timing that came as a shock. Lawson was only at Red Bull for two race weekends before being moved back down to Racing Bulls.
Bayer said, "Welcoming Liam back to the team has been a pleasant experience, ultimately. We knew him well. I had breakfast with him this morning – he’s in a good space, he’s happy, he’s motivated, he’s looking forward to racing."
Lawson 'puzzled' upon return to Racing Bulls
When asked if Lawson returned lacking confidence, Bayer responded, "Confidence? No. Honestly, I think it took a moment for him to digest."
Bayer then explains how Lawson looked when he returned to Italy.
He said, "First time I saw him when he came to Italy, he looked a bit sad. Honestly, that’s how I perceived him. He was a bit puzzled with everything that happened very quickly."
"At the same time, he knew the people, the tools, the setup. And I really felt that very quickly he was returning to being the old Liam."
Bayer added, "He’s a great racer, somebody that has great humour, and that’s what we see now again."
