Carlos Sainz can only be satisfied with how Ferrari has performed during the first day of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Sainz sees enough points of contact and thinks he has a chance to win the podium this weekend. With that he speaks words of the same tenor as Mattia Binotto and teammate Charles Leclerc.

"It's good to have the team fighting for the top positions from the start, unlike last year. It's good to see that the fast laps are coming easier than in 2021," he began to tell Sky. Whereas the first practice session went completely to plan, it was slightly less so in the second. Especially at the front of the F1-75 the balance was a bit less.

Not an ideal day Sainz

The latter then prevailed with Sainz. "Unfortunately I didn't have an ideal day. Especially in FP2 I didn't have a good feeling, but nevertheless I drove the third time and that means there is potential and that we are doing well. Now I need to find a good balance and a good feeling with the car on the soft tires to take a step forward with a view to tomorrow."

For Sainz, a busy evening awaits, or so he tells himself. That precisely the late afternoon session went more moderately is a setback for the 27-year-old Spaniard. After all, the conditions in qualifying and the race are almost identical to those of FP2. Sainz will go back to the drawing board and will hopefully do better on Saturday.
