Formula 1 was gearing up for a blistering race in Mexico, but fans were disappointed. It delivered a Grand Prix that slowly chugged along towards the end, while it was once again Max Verstappen who kept the competition at bay. With that, it was officially the most boring race of the year.

Analysts were short of superlatives to predict the excitement in the early stages. With Verstappen in pole position and Lewis Hamilton and George Russell behind him, it was bound to be a great opening of the GP, with the Dutchman having to pull out all the stops to stay in front. The main reason for this was the long straight towards the first corner.

Nothing was further from the truth, however. Russell failed to get around the outside, while Hamilton cleverly managed to position himself next to his teammate and then pass him. Verstappen, meanwhile, relaxed in front and managed to create a gap with the Mercedes drivers at lightning speed, after which a race awaited him in which he only had to control.

Lack of excitement in GP Mexico

This season showed that with Verstappen's supremacy, it is still possible to see an exciting race, but even that was not granted to the spectators. Sergio Perez still managed to get on the podium in his home country with a third place, while Russell, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finished behind. The other drivers were lapped.

Hardly anything happened in terms of dropouts either. Tsunoda had to drop out early in the race after colliding with Daniel Ricciardo. Fernando Alonso was the second and last dropout with a broken cylinder. The two-time world champion calmly put his car aside and then exited.

In short, those who had hoped for a riveting fight in the evening were disappointed on Sunday. The race was briefly reminiscent of the years before 2021, when Formula 1 also lacked excitement with Hamilton. Hopefully, this year's Mexican race will be an incident and the thrills will return soon.
