The first two free practice sessions on the
Red Bull Ring didn't go smoothly for
Red Bull Racing and
Max Verstappen. Moreover, if one looks purely at the time lists, the team seems to lack a lot of speed at Mercedes. Verstappen doesn't really care about that yet.
The Dutchman finished the first and second free practice respectively in third and eighth place, with the gap to Lewis Hamilton particularly large. For Red Bull the day was seen as disappointing by many followers, but Verstappen refuses to go along.
"Everything went according to plan. Some people might have been worried about the speed, but I don't do that. Lap times don't tell everything and it wasn't the smoothest session, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow", he says in
Formula 1 Cafe on
Ziggo Sport.
He's referring to the small mistakes that caused him to damage his front wing one time and end up in the gravel trap again.
