New Ferrari CEO Louis C. Camilleri has insisted that there is "no timeframe" in their decision over who will be driving for them next season.
Kimi Raikkonen's seat at Ferrari looks to be under intense pressure with Sauber's Charles Leclerc being linked as a possible replacement for the veteran driver.
Camilleri made his first appearance in the F1 paddock today following his appointment after Sergio Marchionne's tragic death in July.
Leclerc has impressed during his debut season with Sauber and there is a thought that Ferrari might take a risk with the youth over the experienced Finn, that they already have in their ranks.
"Actually I know Kimi very well," Camilleri said after today's practice session. "He's a dear friend, and has been for a long time.
"As for the decision-making process, it's a team decision. As Maurizio (Arrivabene) is our Team Principal, ultimately - he'll make the decision, but we will discuss it. Once we're ready, we'll tell you.
"When we take that decision, and there is no timeframe, you will be the second (person) to know."
Ferrari ensured a 1-2 finish in today's FP2, with Sebastian Vettel the quickest driver, ahead of his team-mate Raikkonen.
Scuderia will be determined to close the gap on Mercedes when the real action begins on Sunday, with Vettel locked in an intense title battle with the Silver Arrows driver, Lewis Hamilton.
