Spectators of cancelled Belgian GP do not get their money back
- GPblog.com
Those thinking of the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix may remember the rainy chaos. The race was cancelled after hours of waiting and only a few laps behind the safety car. The F1 organisers promised fans who waited in the cold and rain compensation, but it now looks like it won't amount to much.
The fans who were present at the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps kept hoping for hours that the race would still be started, but in the end, it didn't happen. The drivers were awarded half points and the fans returned home cold and tired.
The organisation promised after the weekend that the fans would be compensated. They had of course paid a lot of money for a ticket to attend the race. On Twitter, several messages are now coming out about the compensation.
Compensation in three forms
Fans would get a free subscription to F1TV Pro, access to a draw of 170 free tickets among all attendees, and access to the event in Belgium on the Thursday. F1TV is not available in all countries and only 170 tickets is little, as there were over 70,000 fans in attendance at Spa.
On Twitter, opinions are divided. Some fans find the offered compensation outrageous, but others don't think the organisation should have had to return money for the tickets.

Instead, they have been offered free F1TV passes (which cannot even show F1 live in many territories), access to a Thursday event, and a prize draw for tickets to the race next year.
Disgraceful.
