Mercedes keeps an eye on Red Bull sidepods: 'Looks interesting'

Formula 1 has come out with completely new cars in 2022 and has strict rules that teams must adhere to. Beforehand, many people thought that this would make cars look alike, but in practice, it turns out otherwise.
Multiple concepts seen
Especially the side pods are very different at the teams. Technical director Mike Elliott of Mercedes says that his team has opted for a slimmer body of the car, which in his view is more of an aerodynamic solution. This is to control the airflow of the tires. It is not yet certain that Mercedes will continue to use this solution. "But I think the reality is that the cars will evolve a lot", Elliott let it be known in conversation with F1 TV Tech Talk.
Elliott reveals that he hasn't looked very closely at other cars during testing, but he admits that the Red Bull Racing sidepods did catch his eye. "I guess the most visually different thing is the sidepod that Red Bull has come up with. It looks interesting, we’ll go and have a think about it”, the Brit informed.
Mercedes and Red Bull were fast in Barcelona
Mercedes and Red Bull may have arrived in Barcelona with different concepts, but the two teams seemed to be immediately matched again. On the final day, the drivers from both teams drove the four fastest times of the day.
