The first week of testing was held in Barcelona and this week the Formula 1 circus is a guest in Bahrain. Sergio Perez states that the Bahrain International Circuit is not the most ideal circuit for testing. Furthermore, the Red Bull Racing driver discusses the performance of the RB18 so far in 2022.

In recent years, the discussion has flared up on several occasions about where to test. In Barcelona, the weather can still be a bit stormy in late February or early March, which is why some teams would prefer to test in Bahrain by default because the weather is always good there. However, one advantage of testing in Spain is that it is easier and cheaper in terms of logistics. Perez's preference is for the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

"It's difficult to drive consistently," Perez told Auto, Motor und Sport. "The lap times can go up or down by a second within an hour. The temperatures and the wind have a big influence." So the conditions are not constant and that is actually what you need in pre-season testing.

Red Bull will accelerate tomorrow

Perez was the most productive driver on Thursday. The Mexican made a lot of kilometres and that makes him happy. That his time was not good for a nice ranking in the rankings he takes for granted. "I'm looking forward to my last half day tomorrow. We can't say much yet, but the start was good. We haven't really hit the gas pedal yet. That will probably come tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing how the car will feel then," he concludes.

Meanwhile, the veteran is hoping for an early contract extension at Red Bull Racing. Perez indicated this week that he was hoping for a multi-year commitment at the Austrian racing stable. However, Red Bull has a second option with Pierre Gasly.
