Max Verstappen was not at all happy with Red Bull Racing and its strategy in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Helmut Marko admits afterwards that the Austrians left a stitch in that area. Furthermore Marko says he does not understand how both RB18's could have failed in the first GP of the year.

"We don't have a conclusive explanation. It's something that must have happened all over again. Whether it is a defect, in the electronics or whatever, it is now just guesswork," Marko told ORF. It is extraordinary to mention that Verstappen and Perez are affected by the same fault, while from the winter tests there were no problems at all.

"It is more than unpleasant to drop out after such a test performance with both cars with the same defect," Marko continues his story. In any case, nothing is wrong with the engines themselves, he confirms."It has nothing to do with the drivetrains." Red Bull expects to have a clear answer by Sunday evening as to what exactly caused the double DNF.

Verstappen gets it right

A second and fourth place went up in smoke. With that, some thirty points were lost to the team from Austria. According to Marko, there wasn't more to it than that either. "We were also too slow. We had no chance in Sector 2. In terms of strategy, we were not at our best either. We underestimated the undercut. It was not our day," he concludes.
