This week, reports emerged that Lewis Hamilton is planning to invest money in Chelsea together with tennis star Serena Williams. For the British driver, it was a logical decision, he told Sky Sports at the press conference.
The top English football club was owned by Roman Abramovich for many years, but after the Russian invasion of Ukraine it had become even more impossible for him to stay at Chelsea. Therefore, the club has now gone up for sale and Chelsea is waiting for the new owner.
Hamilton thought hard about Chelsea
Among others, Martin Broughton is said to be in the race. The former chairman of Liverpool FC ánd British Airways hopes to have a good chance with several people behind him. Reportedly, Williams and Hamilton would even be willing to invest ten million euros in new successes for the club. For Hamilton, however, this was not the main reason.
"[Chelsea has] been quite leading in the work in [diversity and inclusion] and becoming more diverse and progressive. So, it's not that we're associating ourselves with previous owners," Hamilton stressed. "Our goal is to continue some of the work that they've already done and have even more of an impact and engage more with the community."
