Schumacher after Sainz contract extension: 'My chances will come'
- GPblog.com
Before the weekend at Imola, it was announced by Ferrari that Carlos Sainz has extended his contract through 2024. For Mick Schumacher, this means less good news, because the protégé also hopes for a seat at the main force from Maranello. He is calm under the news that Sainz will still defend the red colours for the next two years.
The line-up at Ferrari is therefore already complete for the coming years and it cannot be ruled out that Leclerc and Sainz will continue to race for Ferrari from 2025 onwards. Schumacher, therefore, has to stand still for a while, but that doesn't worry him.
Schumacher responds sportingly
"I think in many ways it was expected," Schumacher says about Sainz's contract extension to the German branch of Sky." Of course, Carlos did a mega job last year so he deserves it. For me, it doesn't mean anything different than usual. I do my job here [at Haas F1], do my best, and the opportunities will come."
Schumacher probably hadn't considered a switch to Ferrari in 2023 either. The German driver is only in his second season in the premier class of motorsport and, for the time being, has to contend with the returning Kevin Magnussen.
