Alpine feeds rumors: Piastri tests at Silverstone circuit
- GPblog.com
Oscar Piastri will return to action for Alpine. The reigning Formula 2 champion is without a seat in F1, but will get plenty of chances from Alpine to stay in shape for 2023.
Alpine test at Silverstone
Piastri may be the most talented driver of his generation, but the young Australian is unlucky to be in Alpine's training program. Where as a talent from Red Bull, Ferrari or Mercedes he would have been given a spot in F1 after his titles in F2 and F3, Alpine has no B-team to house the young driver.
So Piastri will have to make do with a role as reserve driver for the French team in 2022. He will make frequent test kilometers and will also be in action at Silverstone. The 21-year-old driver already hinted on Instagram that he would be in action there and Alpine now confirms that Piastri will indeed be in action with the 2021 A521 at the Silverstone circuit.
Piastri to Williams
This immediately feeds the rumors surrounding Piastri. He would have a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Alpine if he has not been offered an F1 seat by July 1. The British Grand Prix follows after that date and at The Race they knew that this is where Williams wants to announce that Piastri will replace Nicholas Latifi in 2023.
However, there are also rumors that Piastri may already make his appearance at during the British GP in 2022. Due to Latifi's disappointing results, Piastri might already get the chance to join the team from Grove midway through the 2022 season. The fact that Piastri is now allowed to test at the Silverstone circuit only fuels those rumors more.
