Mercedes stays loyal to F1: 'Happy to be part of the show'

Mercedes will remain loyal to Formula 1, even though the sport may not choose the same route as the German manufacturer's automotive division. CEO Ola Källenius revealed this in an interview with Autocar.
Mercedes longer linked to the sport
In recent years, it has often been about Mercedes' future in F1. The German manufacturer was extremely successful between 2014 and 2021, but not everyone within the company has always been a big fan of the sport. However, with Källenius and Wolff at the helm, the future of the F1 team seems assured.
Despite having set a goal of focusing entirely on electric cars from 2025 to sell only electric cars from 2030 "where the market allows", Mercedes remains loyal to F1. The sport itself has no ambition to become fully electric, but that is not a problem for Mercedes.
Future of F1
''We have decided to go towards this journey of decarbonisation - it's the only decision that you can make - and the same goes for Formula 1. The next powertrain regulations that we will have will put much more significance on the electrical side - and there is a clear commitment to making Formula 1 CO2-neutral,'' says the Mercedes CEO.
So although F1 will not completely switch to electric cars like Mercedes, Källenius sees plenty of prospects for further cooperation. ''We're happy to be part of that show and be one of the forces in Formula 1, exploiting it both for our technological development but also for marketing. As far as we’re concerned, the sport is going to have a bright future'', concludes the Mercedes chief.
