Horner reacts after tense finish: "It wasn't very comfortable at all"
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner believes Max Verstappen is in the form of his life as he took another victory this weekend. In the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen had to defend an attacking Carlos Sainz in the last 15 laps to secure the win. Once again, Horner has praise for his driver.
Comfortable weekend?
Verstappen looked set to have one of his most dominant weekends in his career. He qualified comfortably in pole position and looked to be in control of the Grand Prix until Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda crashed coming out of the pits causing a safety car.
"It wasn't very comfortable at all in that last ten laps or so! Max couldn't break the DRS, the Ferrari was very quick in a straight line today, they could attack the kerbs. Not a single mistake. We lost communication with the car. All credit to Carlos, he pushed Max really hard," Horner told Sky Sports after the race.
Points lost
Sergio Perez has been matching Verstappen over recent weekends, but the Mexican dropped off this weekend. In qualifying, he made a mistake in tricky wet conditions and qualified out of position. In the race, he ended up retiring with a gearbox issue. Still, Horner is pleased to still be leading both World Championships as the F1 circus heads to Silverstone.
"You have to take each race at a time. It's great to be heading to Silverstone in the lead of both Championships. Max is in the form of his life. Disappointing not to have Checo there, it was a gearbox issue I think. Max was clinical today," Horner added.
